Guidelines for volunteering at one of our Rebuilding Together sites.

Follow all safety guidelines
 
Safety guidelines have been established by the state of California and the Legal Department of Rebuilding Together.
 
Do not attempt to perform a task you don't fully understand!
 
1) If you don't understand something, please ask for an explanation from your House Captain or Volunteer Team Leader
 
         What to Bring to a Rebuilding Together Build Site
  • Wear sturdy, comfortable shoes (no sandals allowed) work boots are encouraged and comfortable work clothes. (Shorts are okay, but jeans are recommended)
  • Drink plenty of water, (keep yourself hydrated regularly,) especially in hot weather. (Water is provided throughout the day by Rebuilding Together or your volunteer team.)
  • Use sunscreen as needed
  • Whenever possible, please bring tools specified by your House Captain or Volunteer Team Leader with you to help with your project (please label all personal items and make sure they are in good working order.) 
2) Stay with your Volunteer Team until the job is completed, unless you are reassigned by your House Captain or Volunteer Team Leader.
 
3) Report any injury to your House Captain or Volunteer Team Leader immediately.
  • An accident report form must be filled out for each injury on site.
  • First aid kits are assigned to your project site.
Restrictions for persons under age 18.
 
UNDER AGE 14:
 
PERSONS UNDER THE AGE OF 14 ARE NOT AND WILL NOT BE PERMITTED AT REBUILDING TOGETHER WORKSITES. They will be assigned to Safety, material distribution, or Hospitality teams
 
Registration form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian if the Volunteer is between age 14 and 18 years.
 
Ages 14 & 15: 
  • Can; paint, perform general clean up, and landscaping tasks.
  • Cannot; perform demolition, construction, use power tools or work on ladders.
  • They must be supervised on a one adult-to-one youth ratio.
Ages 16 & 17:
  • Can; paint, perform general clean up, and landscaping tasks.
  • Cannot; help with excavation, demolition, use power tools, work at heights above 6 feet or on the roof.
  • Can; assist with general carpentry.
  • They must be supervised at a minimum on a one adult-to-three youth ratio.
